London Trip Report - Day 8 - May 13, 2005
Today I got up first. I got up before the alarm went off which was set for 9AM. I got showered and cleaned up, then woke Linda up. We wanted to see the changing of the guards today at Buckingham Palace. We got there in time that we were able to watch the parade come by but we didn't actually see the changing of the guards. It was good enough for me. There were gobs of people out there for it. After we watched the parades come by from both sides, we walked through adjacent Green Park.
We found an Underground station and hopped on a train for Tottingham Court Road where we could easily walk to The British Museum. They have many artifacts from Roman and Egyptian history. We did a breeze through tour without reading much. Both of us are kind of museum'd out at this point.
We then went to Lecester Square again so I could get a ticket for tonight. I got a ticket for "The Woman In Black" which unlike "The Woman In White" which I saw Monday, is a straight play.
From Lecester Square we walked to Trafalger Square to see it now that the concert stanging and such from last Sunday's events had finally all been removed. I couldn't get over the size of the sculptures. I also was surprised to find that there were not that many pigeons like everyone said there would be. They must've found somewhere better to go today.
We decided that our next adventure needed to be done before it was too late. We went to The London Eye. It is the world's largest observation wheel. It was a nice experience. You go very high up and you're ride on the river so there are great views. I highly recommend this attration but stay away from it on the weekend! We went down there last Saturday and the line was extemely long. Today we only waited for a few minutes.
We came back to the room around 6:30PM. I layed down for a disco nap. It felt great to lay back. I was exhausted. All the walking and stairs have caught up to me. I have only stood still even on the escalators a few times. Both of us have had constant sore legs and feet this week.
After my short nap, I got up and dressed for the theatre tonight. "The Woman In Black" was brilliant!!! It is a thriller. The cast listing only shows two people but there is a third spirit that will scare you very well. This is not one for the kids at all. The show has been running since 1989! That is highly unusual for a play to last that long. Now I know what all the fuss is about though.
We've rounded out the evening watching some British television in the hotel room. We just watched a variety show which had David Hasselhoff and Kelly Osborne guest starring on it. We laughed quite a lot. They talked about how the people of the United States are not as tollerant of many things as the people of England are.
It's now after 1:30 AM and it's time for bed. We are going to the Portobello Road market in Notting Hill tomorrow morning. I'm very excited to see it.
